5 Signs It's Time to Repaint Your Fresno Home's Exterior

Oct 8, 2026

Why Fresno Is Hard on Exterior Paint

Fresno summers regularly climb past 100 degrees, and the sun does not let up for months. That heat and UV exposure break down the binders in exterior paint, so color fades, the surface chalks, and the film eventually cracks. Stucco, wood trim, and fences all take the hit, and the south and west faces of a house usually go first.

5 Signs It's Time to Repaint

  1. Fading color. If the side of your house that faces the afternoon sun looks noticeably lighter than the shaded side, the paint is wearing out.
  2. Chalking. Run your hand across the wall. If a powdery residue comes off, the binder is breaking down.
  3. Hairline cracks in stucco or paint. Small cracks let water in, even in a dry climate, and they only get bigger.
  4. Peeling or bubbling. This usually means moisture got behind the paint or the surface was not prepped well the last time.
  5. Bare or gray wood. Trim, fascia, and fence boards with no paint left are unprotected and will dry out and split.

Why Prep Matters More Than the Paint

The most expensive paint will still fail if it goes over dirt, loose paint, or unrepaired cracks. A proper exterior job starts with washing, scraping, patching cracks, sanding rough spots, and priming bare areas. That is the part people do not see, and it is what decides whether the paint lasts three years or ten.

Timing

Spring and fall are the best seasons in the Valley. Mornings are cooler, paint cures evenly, and you avoid the afternoon heat that makes paint dry too fast. We take on painting year round, but if your project is flexible, we will tell you honestly when the best window is.
